Joe Cashion Steps Down From Football Radio Broadcasting at CCU

CONWAY, S.C. – Joe Cashion, who joined the Coastal Carolina University football program's radio broadcast team during its inaugural season in 2003, has decided to step down from his position. He began his career with the Chanticleers as a sideline reporter and was later promoted to play-by-play announcer.

"Words cannot express my gratitude and thanks to Coastal Carolina University, the athletic department, and the football program for allowing me to make this amazing journey," said Cashion. "I've been so incredibly blessed to have been on the Coastal Football radio broadcast, from our inaugural game on Sept. 6, 2003, which we won over Newberry, through Dec. 23, 2023, where we won our second bowl game out in Hawai'i. To have also been on the ride in Omaha in 2016 to broadcast Coastal Baseball winning the national title is more than I've ever deserved.

"My sincerest thanks to AD Matt Hogue for hiring me to be a part of the first Coastal Football broadcast team in 2003, promoting me in 2014, and has always been someone I can trust. I will forever cherish his friendship and loyalty."

According to Cashion, in addition to the Newberry game, the highlights of his Chanticleer broadcasting career include covering the comeback victory against Liberty in 2013, the first-ever win versus Appalachian State in 2020, the win over BYU on College GameDay in 2020, and the bowl game victories in 2021 and 2023.
