CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's and women's cross country teams opened their 2024 fall season with a pair of top-five finishes at the CSU Buccaneer Invitational.
CCU's men had three runners finish in the top-10 en route to a second-place team finish in the 6k event.
Adam Groves crossed the finish line third with a time of 19:17.3, followed by
Trey Kraimer's time of 19:24.2, which gave him a seventh-place finish.
Ethan Blackwelder placed 10th with a time of 19:59.2
Marking their return for the Chants,
Tomas Duncan and
Garrett Ricardo finished 13th and 25th, with times of 20:09.0 and 20:38.7. Fellow returner
Jackson Brungart finished 28th with a time of 20:54.5.
In his CCU debut,
Dylan Payer finished 15th with a time of 20:20.9.
In the women's 5k event, Coastal finished fourth with
Jenna Lang, in her first event with the Chants, leading the way with a 10th-place finish and a time of 19:20.5.
Among Coastal's returners,
Erin McQuitty placed 26th with a time of 20:47.0,
Katelyn Porter came in 27th at 20:44.8, and
Taylor Houston finished 29th at 20:53.0
In their first race with CCU,
Bethany Simpson finished 23rd with a time of 20:22.5,
Amanda Probst placed 30th at 20:58.9, and
Ella Wilson clocked a 21:30.2 to finish 35th.
The Chants' next meet is Friday, Sept. 13, as CCU hosts the Chanticleer Challenge at the Hackler Golf Course in Conway.
