PARIS – Melissa Jefferson is an Olympic gold medalist.
The former Chanticleer ran the opening leg of the women's 4x100 relay on Friday at the Stade de France and helped Team USA win the gold medal in Paris. The Americans, who ran the fastest qualifying time on Thursday with a 41.94, finished with a 41.78 in a steady rain as Jefferson, Twanisha Terry, Gabby Thomas, and Sha'Carri Richardson bested Great Britain by .07 seconds for the gold medal.
Jefferson opened the event for Team USA with a split of 11.46, the third-fastest opening leg in the field.
The first Chanticleer to ever earn a medal in the Olympics, Jefferson concludes her first Olympic appearance with a bronze medal in the 100-meter dash and a gold in the 4x100 relay.
