Volleyball Opens Five-Match Homestand Against UNCW

CONWAY, S.C. - Coastal Carolina opens a five-game homestand Wednesday night against UNCW. The Chanticleers will then host James Madison for a pair of Sun Belt matches Friday and Saturday before welcoming Appalachian State to the HTC Center a week later.

SERIES VS. UNCW | RESULTS
With a win, Coastal Carolina would even the all-time series at 24-24. The Chanticleers have won three straight over the Seahawks, whom they are facing for the fourth time in five years.

QUICK GLANCE: UNCW
• The Seahawks enter Wednesday's match on a four-game losing streak with a 3-14 overall record. UNCW is winless on the road this season with an 0-5 mark.
• Coach Lo Hoyer is in her first season with the Seahawks after helping IUP to three consecutive NCAA Division II regional appearances.
• Marien Ursem ranks second in the CAA with 1.05 blocks per set. As a team, UNCW ranks fourth in the conference with 2.05 blocks per set. 
• Defensive specialist Coley Shiflet ranks ninth in the CAA with 3.27 digs per set.
• Hannah Forbes leads the team in kills (141), attacks (536), services aces (15) and points (159.5). She is the only player on the team with over 100 kills. Ursem is second with 99 kills and Avery Markham is third with 95. 
• Ursem leads the Seahawks with a .243 (99-34-268) hitting percentage.

WRAPPING UP NON-CONFERENCE PLAY: The Chanticleers have compiled a 7-4 non-conference record this season as they conclude their schedule against opponents outside the Sun Belt Conference on Wednesday versus UNCW. A win over the Seahawks would give CCU its most non-conference victories since 2022 (8) and highest winning percentage since 2019 (10-2, .833).

MORE WINS: A victory over UNCW would mark Coastal Carolina's 14th of the season, surpassing its win total from the entire 2024 campaign. The Chanticleers have 13 wins in 17 matches this season; a year ago, they didn't record their 13th victory until their 29th match.

BLOCKBUSTER: Coastal Carolina leads the Sun Belt Conference in blocks per set (2.87) and total blocks (178.0), ranking among the top 20 nationally in both categories (10th in blocks per set / 11th in total blocks).

LEAGUE LEADER: Junior Anna Rita leads the Sun Belt in total blocks (96) and blocks per set (1.55) entering the third weekend of conference play, ranking among the top 10 nationally. She sits fifth in total blocks and seventh in blocks per set among all NCAA Division I players.

KILLER INSTINCT: Juniors Emily Fowler and Anna Rita rank third and eighth, respectively, in the Sun Belt in hitting percentage. Fowler is third at .381 (152-32-315), while Rita is eighth at .353 (116-28-249).

DIGGIN' IT: Senior Bailee Earnhardt is just four digs shy of surpassing her career high of 221, set as a sophomore. She totaled 183 digs in 108 sets played last season and has already recorded 217 digs in 62 sets this year.

WALLIS DISTRIBUTION: Junior Ava Wallis has made the most of her increased role this season after serving as a reserve last year. She has appeared in more matches this season (17) than she did as a sophomore (11) and leads the Chanticleers with 335 total assists (5.49 per set). Wallis has already more than doubled her kill total from last season (155 to 69) and ranks second on the team with nine double-doubles.

HIT 'EM HIGH: Coastal Carolina has out-hit each of its opponents during its six-match winning streak and is 13-0 this season when posting a higher hitting percentage. The Chanticleers have recorded 66 blocks while being blocked just 26 times during their six Sun Belt contests.

FIRST SET INDICATOR: Coastal Carolina has captured the first set in 13 of its 17 matches this season, posting an 11-2 record in those contests. The two losses came against North Carolina and FIU. The Chanticleers rallied to win after dropping the opening set versus Maryland (four sets) and Marshall (five sets).
