Women's Basketball Continues Conference-Opening Week with Georgia State

CONWAY - Coastal Carolina women's basketball (6-6) continues Sun Belt play with Georgia State (4-8) on Saturday afternoon at the HTC Center. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on ESPN+ as well as the Chanticleer Sports Network.

ABOUT THE CHANTS

  • The Chanticleers are one of the highest-volume three-point shooting teams in the country, ranking 16 with 9.6 three-pointers per gameand 31st with 26.7 three-point attempts per game.  
  • Currently, Coastal ranks 126th overall in the NCAA women's basketball NET rankings, one of seven Sun Belt teams ranked in the top 130.   
  • Despite having a limited bench, Coastal took preseason-favorites JMU to the wire on Wednesday night, falling 71-68.
  • Coastal went 22-59 (37%) from the field and 10-23 (44%) from three-point range, while making 14 of 21 free throws. 
  • Through 12 games, Coastal ranks tied for 65th in the country with 75.2 points per game
  • Tessa Grady leads the team in scoring with 14.1 points per game. 

ABOUT THE PANTHERS
  • Georgia State currently stands at 4-8 this season with an 0-1 mark in Sun Belt play.
  • The Panthers are coming off a 68-47 loss against Georgia Southern on Thursday. 
  • Crystal Henderson leads the team in scoring with 15.3 points per game. 
  • Gene Hill is in his 8th year as the head coach of the Panthers, going 17-16 and 8-10 in conference play last season.  

SERIES HISTORY
  • Coastal will be meeting Georgia State for the 22nd time, with the Chants holding the series lead 15-6. 
  • Last season, Coastal and Georgia State met three times, with the Chants taking two games including a 77-68 win in the Sun Belt tournament quarterfinals.
  • The Chants have won eight of the last nine matchups.

SHE'S ARRIVED
  • In her freshman season, Kinsea Grimes has emerged as one of Coastal's most dynamic players.
  • In her first 11 games, Grimes has scored in double figures six times with three 20+ scoring performances, including a season-high 25 against Gardner-Webb. 
  • Grimes has collected two double-doubles, with 11 boards and 25 points against Gardner-Webb and 10 rebounds with 19 points against UNCG.
  • In the last six games, Grimes has averaged 16.3 points per game while shooting 46% (33-71) from the field and 55% (12-22) from three. 
  • With 11.6 points per game this season, Grimes leads the Sun Belt in points per game for a freshman.

THREE-POINT PARTY
  • Currently, Coastal ranks 16th in the country with 9.6 made three-pointers per game.
  • The Chants are also ranked 31st in the country with 26.7 three-point attempts per contest.
  • Both Tessa Grady and Kristin Williams rank in the top-25 in the country for made three-pointers, with Grady tied for 3rd (38) and Williams tied for 24th (32).

COASTAL CHAOS
  • Head Coach Kevin Pederson coined the term "Coastal Chaos" prior to last season due to his philosophy of tough defense and forcing teams to be uncomfortable. 
  • The stats backed up the chaotic defense, as the Chants led the Sun Belt with 20.3 turnovers forced per game and ranked second in steals per game with 10.88.
  • This season, Coastal ranks tied for 26th in the country with 22.0 turnovers forced per game, and tied for 75th with a turnover margin of 3.7.
