ST. CHARLES, Mo. — Coastal Carolina gave everything it had on the road Friday, but a last-minute equalizer and an overtime dagger spoiled the effort in a 16-15 loss at Lindenwood in ASUN play.
The Chanticleers (4-7, 0-2 ASUN) went toe-to-toe with the league-leading Lions and nearly pulled off the upset, holding a 15-14 lead with just 23 seconds remaining. But Lindenwood (9-1, 2-0 ASUN) forced overtime with a goal in the closing moments and scored the game-winner less than a minute into the extra period.
Sydney McClure led Coastal with four goals and three assists, including a clutch free-position strike and an assist to Alexandra Horn that put the Chants in front late. Alyson Mascolo matched McClure with four goals of her own, and Gabrielle Beaudet added a pair—including a man-up goal in the third quarter.
Despite being outshot 35-25 and trailing 25-9 in draw controls, the Chanticleers hung tough in a wild back-and-forth battle that featured six lead changes and seven ties. Goalie Charlotte Sadler made nine saves to keep Coastal in it, including multiple stops down the stretch.
McClure's assist to Horn with 4:23 to play capped a 3-1 Coastal run that had the Chants on the brink of a statement road win. But a Lindenwood equalizer with 0:21 remaining—and the ensuing overtime winner—flipped the script.
