HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Coastal Carolina softball team was edged 6–4 by Marshall on Friday afternoon, leveling the series at 1–1 in Huntington, W.Va.
After two scoreless innings, the Chanticleers jumped out to a 4–0 lead thanks to a fielder's choice and a three-run home run by
Maddy Jennings.
The Thundering Herd responded in the bottom of the third, as Abby Darnley launched a solo home run over the left-field wall to trim the deficit to 4–1.
Marshall continued to chip away in the bottom of the fifth, adding two more runs on an Haleigh Adkins home run and a Tia Titi RBI single to close the gap to 4–3.
In the bottom of the sixth, Rielly Lucas and Adkins each hit home runs to drive in three runs and give the Herd a 6–4 lead they would not relinquish.
Nicolette Picone (21–6) took the loss in the circle, allowing three runs on four hits over 1.2 innings of relief.
The Chanticleers will face Marshall in the series-deciding matchup Saturday at noon ET.
