CONWAY, S.C. – Fifth-year senior
Sydney McClure scored four goals and distributed five assists to lead Coastal Carolina over Queens University, 18-13, Saturday afternoon at Brooks Stadium in her final home game.
After scoring once in the second quarter, McClure delivered the game-winning goal with 7:36 left in the third period before adding another later in the quarter and putting the icing on the cake, scoring the game's final goal with 17 seconds left.
Gabrielle Beaudet added four goals,
Alyson Mascolo had three while
Maddie Bates and
Sophie Kingsborough scored two apiece as the Chanticleers (6-9, 2-3 ASUN) snapped a two-game losing streak.
Devin Rybacki won 15 draw controls for CCU, which out-shot Queens 34-27.
The Royals (5-10, 2-3 ASUN) led 3-1 after 8:30, but the Chanticleers scored three unanswered goals to take a 4-3 lead at the end of the first quarter with Kingsborough scoring the go-ahead goal with 1:04 remaining in the period.
CCU retained the lead for the remainder of the game and built a seven-goal lead, 17-10, with 12:13 left in regulation.
Goalkeeper
Charlotte Sadler (6-8) picked up the victory, recording eight saves. Gianna Coburn (1-1) suffered her first loss in goal for Queens but registered nine saves.
Ellie Grissett and Jordan Tandler each posted a hat trick for the Royals.
The Chanticleers will close regular season play on Friday, April 29, at Kennesaw State. The game is slated for noon.
