Melissa Jefferson-Wooden Wins 100-Meter World Championship

TOKYO – With a time of 10.61 seconds, former Coastal Carolina track star Melissa Jefferson-Wooden won the 100-meter women's world championship on Sunday. Jefferson-Wooden broke the world championship record that was previously held by Sha'Carri Richardson.

Her time was the fourth-fastest 100-meter race in history. Jefferson-Wooden will also compete in the 200-meter race on Friday for a world championship after winning the national title in August.

The Georgetown, South Carolina native competed for the Chanticleers from 2019 to 2022 and won the outdoor national championship in 2022 in the 100 meters and indoor national championship in the 60 meters.

Former Chanticleer track and cross country athlete Adriaan Wildschutt placed 10th in the men's 10k world championship representing South Africa.
