Women’s Soccer Earns Highest Team GPA in Sun Belt

CONWAY, S.C. – Success for the Coastal Carolina women's soccer team is not only measured by their performance on the pitch but also by their achievements in the classroom. On Thursday, it was announced that the Chanticleers earned the highest GPA of all women's soccer teams in the Sun Belt Conference earning an impressive 3.752 cumulative GPA.

For Academic Advisor Megan Gregory the honor comes as no surprise. "I've worked with the team all 12 semesters I've been here, and I'm always so proud of them," she said. "These girls work hard every day for what they earned and deserve all the credit and accolades for that hard work."

Megan attributes the team's success to both leadership and mindset. "The coaches set the tone and the expectation, but they also recruit really smart, hardworking, and academically driven students," she explained. "The girls are great about communicating with their professors about travel and games even before I send out official documentation of their absences. They also utilize their free time, not only during a normal week, but also on the road, to make sure they fit in homework and study time in order to not fall behind."

Their academic excellence has become a defining trait of the program. "Their achievements are consistent every semester," Megan noted. "They know how to utilize their resources and ask for help when needed. They all do a great job of utilizing every opportunity and resource available to them, and they want to do their best academically. Handling all of that in and out of season is what impresses me about all of our athletes, but these girls especially."

Head Coach Jo Chubb echoed those sentiments, emphasizing the culture of balance and excellence. "I could not be prouder of this group for achieving the highest GPA in the conference," she said. "It speaks volumes about their commitment to excellence beyond the field. A special thank you to Megan, our academic advisor, whose tireless work and guidance make such success possible. At Coastal, we emphasize the student in student-athlete, and these young women are an incredible representation of that standard."

Associate Head Coach Nikki Brown said the honor highlights the well-rounded approach the program takes to supporting its student-athletes. "It is incredibly impressive to see our student-athletes excel both on the field and in the classroom," Brown said. "Being a Division I athlete demands so much, yet our team embraces a culture where academic success is just as important as our athletic success. We're especially grateful for our amazing academic coach, Megan, who helps guide our players along their path to graduation. It's always fascinating to hear them talk about their career goals and the futures they are working towards. Overall, it's always a proud moment to see our players receive the recognition they deserve."

For the Chanticleers, the 3.752 GPA is more than just a number it's a reflection of balance, discipline, and an unrelenting drive for excellence. Whether on the field or in the classroom, Coastal Carolina women's soccer continues to raise the bar.

The Chanticleers are set to face the South Alabama Jaguars on Sept. 18 in Mobile, Ala., at 7 p.m. ET.
