Volleyball Ventures To Miami For 305 Invitational

CONWAY, S.C. - Coastal Carolina volleyball is on the road for the third straight weekend as it travels to the Sunshine State for a pair of games at the 305 Invitational in Miami. The Chanticleers will open the tournament on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. when they take on 2024 NCAA participant Miami, then face FIU on Friday at 6 p.m. Coastal Carolina swept the Hurricanes and Panthers in back-to-back matches on the road in 2016. This weekend will be the Chants' first meeting with either opponent since.

SERIES HISTORY
Miami:
The Chants are 1-1 all-time against the Hurricanes. Miami swept Coastal at the Davidson Wildcat Classic in 2001 and the Chants took down the Canes in four 15 years later on the road.
FIU: Coastal is 1-1 all-time against the Panthers. FIU beat Coastal in Conway in 1992 and the Chants knocked off the Panthers in Miami in 2016.

QUICK GLANCE: MIAMI
• The Hurricanes enter Thursday's match on a seven-match winning streak following their win over Illinois on Saturday. They haven't lost since dropping their season opener to Indiana on Aug. 29. 
• Flormarie Heredia Colon leads the ACC and ranks 10th in NCAA Division I with 4.80 kills per set. She ranks fifth in the conference in total kills (120). Colon leads the ACC in points per set (5.70) and is tied with teammate Ariana Rodriguez for the conference lead in aces per set (0.60).
• Miami is holding its opponents to a .168 hitting percentage, while posting an attack percentage of .252. Dalia Wilson is the team's leading attacker with a .367 hitting percentage.
• Naylani Feliciano is averaging a team-best 4.10 digs per set, which ranks fifth in the ACC. Rodriguez is the Hurricanes' primary setter with 9.13 assists per set.

QUICK GLANCE: FIU
• FIU enters the 305 Invitational with a 5-4 record following back-to-back wins over Presbyterian and Georgia over the weekend. The Panthers will face FGCU on Thursday before facing the Chants on on Friday.
• The Panthers lead Conference USA with 15.28 digs per set, which is 56th nationally. Mandi Morioka is FIU's leading receiver, averaging 4.47 digs per set. She ranks second in C-USA.
• Savannah Cook leads the Panthers and C-USA with 9.48 assists per set. Kira Givens paces the FIU attack, averaging 9.71 attacks per set and 3.35 kills per set, both tops on the team.
• As a unit, the Panthers have 35 more kills than their opponents this season, 426-391.

LOOKING FOR SEVEN STRAIGHT: A win over Miami on Thursday would be the Chanticleers' seventh consecutive win and give them their best 10-match start (8-2) since going 10-0 to open the 2020 season. Their six straight wins are their most consecutive non-conference victories since winning nine in a row to open the 2019 season.

MORE TOURNEY OPPONENTS: Coastal will be facing its sixth 2024 NCAA Tournament opponent of the season Thursday, Miami. The Chants are 3-2 against NCAA Tournament teams so far in 2025, defeating Delaware State, Cleveland State and NC State after suffering back-to-back losses to North Carolina and South Carolina.

TRIPLE-DOUBLE RECORD: CCU junior Jalyn Stout is two triple-doubles shy of setting the NCAA career record across all divisions. She enters the weekend with an NCAA Division I record 38 career triple-doubles. The record of 39 is held by Jordyn Gates, who played at Division II Grand Valley State.

MORE SBC POW AWARDS: Stout was named Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks on Tuesday, while Anna Rita was voted the league's Defensive Player of the Week for the first time. Stout posted three triple-doubles, and Rita tallied 25 blocks in three matches at the Wolfpack Invitational.

ALL-TOURNAMENT CHANTS: Stout was named MVP of the Wolfpack Invitational. She averaged 3.92 kills, 3.83 assists, and 3.50 digs per set, tallying 47 kills, 46 assists, and 42 digs with 10 blocks and a .300 hitting percentage. Rita recorded 25 total blocks and 24 kills in 12 sets and received all-tournament accolades. Emily Fowler was also named to the all-tournament team with 35 kills and 16 blocks in 12 sets.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE
• Junior Jalyn Stout has posted a double-double in 29 straight matches dating back to last season. 
• So far this season, she has double-digit kills in seven matches, double-figure assists in eight matches, and double-digit digs in seven matches.
• She set the NCAA single-season record for double-doubles last season with 26, while also producing an NCAA record 20 triple-doubles.
• Stout has recorded 63 career double-doubles, posting 25 as a freshman in addition to 26 last season and nine this year.

WALLIS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF OPPORTUNITY
• Junior Ava Wallis is making the most of her playing time this season after being a reserve last year. She has played in all nine matches this season after seeing the court in just 11 as a sophomore.
• She leads the team in assists with 185 and ranks third in digs with 85. A year ago, she had just 69 digs. Wallis is just two assists shy of 400 as a Chanticleer. She played her freshman season at Northeastern before transferring to CCU as a sophomore.
• Wallis has distributed 20 or more assists in seven matches, including a career-high 29 against NC State on Sunday. It was the third time she handed out 29 assists after doing it twice last season.
• Wallis has recorded five double-doubles this season, including three in a row. She has posted six career double-doubles.
• Wallis registered a career-high 17 digs at NC State in the championship match of the Wolfpack Invitational. It was her fifth double-digit collection of the season and third time she was credited with 15 or more digs at CCU.
