RALEIGH, N.C. – Coastal Carolina recorded its fourth consecutive win with a 3-1 (25-15, 19-25, 25-19, 25-17) victory over Cleveland State in the opening match of the Wolfpack Invitational at Reynolds Coliseum on Friday.
With the win, Coastal Carolina improved to 5-2, while Cleveland State dropped to 0-7.
The Chanticleers won the opening set 25-15, but dropped the second one by six points, 25-19. Coastal flipped the script on Cleveland State in the third and won 25-19, and closed out the match with a 25-17 fourth set triumph.
Junior
Jalyn Stout posted her second triple-double of the season, and 36th of her career, tallying 18 kills, 14 assists, and 17 digs. Junior
Ava Wallis notched her third double-double of the year with 26 assists and 10 digs.
Anna Rita collected a season-best 10 blocks.
QUICK SET SYNOPSIS
• The Chanticleers jumped to a 6-1 lead in the first set, getting a trio of kills from Stout during the run. Cleveland State scored three consecutive points to make it a 6-4 set, but that was as close as Coastal allowed them. Three straight Viking attack errors ignited a 17-9 outburst that gave the Chants their largest lead of the set, 23-13, en route to a 25-15 win.
• Cleveland State built itself a 6-1 lead in the second set, but Coastal battled back to tie the match at 14-all on a block assist by
Emily Fowler and
Anzley Rinard. The Vikings ended the set on an 11-5 run to post a 25-19 victory, tying the match at 1-1.
• Coastal scored the final seven points of the third set to score a 25-19 win and lead 2-1. Stout had two kills, Rinard one, and Rita and Rinard combined on a block while the Chants forced four Viking errors to close out the frame.
• The fourth set was knotted at 3-all before the Chants outscored the Vikings 18-7 to take a commanding 21-10 advantage. Coastal used a 4-0 run to double its lead at 18-9 on a kill from Stout. She scored four of the Chants' final eight points to record a 25-17 final set victory.
NOTES & STATS
• With the victory, Coastal Carolina is off to its best start since the 2021 season, when it also started 5-2.
• Coastal Carolina posted its fourth consecutive victory, its longest-winning streak since recording 13 consecutive wins, all versus Sun Belt Conference opponents, during the 2023 campaign. It's also their first four-game non-conference winning streak since 2021, when they also won four in a row.
• The Chanticleers improved to 4-0 against non-Power 4 opponents this season.
• Stout recorded her 27th consecutive double-double, notching a season-high 17 digs and matching her season-high for blocks with seven.
• Wallis' 26 assists were a season-high and just three of her career-high.
• Rita recorded double-figure blocks for the second time in her career, finishing the match with 10. She had 11 in a match against Eastern Kentucky while at Austin Peay.

Bailee Earnhardt collected double-digit digs for the third straight match and fifth time overall.

Becca Micelle collected double-digit digs for the third time this season.
NEXT MATCH
The Chanticleers continue play at the Wolfpack Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13, against Utah Valley. The match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at Reynolds Coliseum.
