Melissa Jefferson-Wooden Completes the Sweep with 200m World Championship

TOKYO – Former Chanticleer track athlete Melissa Jefferson-Wooden became just the fourth woman ever and first American woman to win both the 100m and 200m world championships in Tokyo on Friday. Jefferson-Wooden won the 200m with a time of 21.68 seconds, the world's best time in two years.

She's the first woman to win both events at one world championship since 2013 when Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica accomplished the feat.

Jefferson can become the fourth woman to win three golds at a single world championship with the 4x100m relay on Sunday.

The Georgetown, South Carolina native competed for the Chanticleers from 2019 to 2022 and won the outdoor national championship in 2022 in the 100m and indoor national championship in the 60m.
