CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team is set to face the UNC Tar Heels at 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday evening.
Chant Talk
- The Chants posted a 2-3 record during their season-opening tournament, the Kickin' Chicken Classic.
- Coastal picked up two wins over Akron but dropped contests to No. 8 Arkansas and Virginia.
- Delaney Keith led the team with a .545 batting average and five RBIs on the weekend.
- Freshmen Kelsey Sawvell, Izzy Ramirez, and Georgia Moss made their collegiate debuts for the Women in Teal.
- Mackenzie Childers and Savannah Jones each went 1-1 in the circle, while Kate Ryan earned her first save of the season.
Scouting the Opponent
- The Tar Heels kicked off opening weekend with a perfect 3-0 record, earning wins over Saint Joseph's, Elon, and fellow Sun Belt foe James Madison.
- Shelby Barbee led the offense, posting a .714 batting average while driving in five runs. Michele Tarpey also added five RBIs while holding a .571 batting average.
- Carly Maxton went 2-0 on the weekend, allowing three runs while striking out six over 7.0 innings of work.
- UNC had one player, Sanaa Thompson, named to the All-ACC Preseason Team.
- The Tar Heels were picked to finish seventh in the ACC Preseason Coaches Poll.
History Against
- The Chants hold a 4-28 all-time record against UNC.
- Last time out, Coastal suffered a 16-11 loss after the Tar Heels rallied, scoring six runs in the final two innings to complete the comeback.
