LAFAYETTE, La. —Still riding the momentum of a dramatic triple-overtime win over UMass, Coastal Carolina returns to Sun Belt Conference play Thursday night with a road test at Louisiana inside the Cajundome.
The Chanticleers (15-11, 7-5 Sun Belt) have won six of their last eight league games after opening conference play 1-4. Louisiana (9-16, 6-6) enters on a four-game winning streak as six teams sit with six conference losses in a tightly packed race.
Coastal outlasted UMass, 94-91, on Saturday in the MAC-SBC Challenge, with Joshua Beadle drilling a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1.4 seconds left in the third overtime. AJ Dancler forced a second extra period with a buzzer-beating 3 in the first overtime, and the Chanticleers erased an 11-point halftime deficit by shooting 8 of 12 from beyond the arc after the break.
Beadle, Dancler and Rasheed Jones anchor Coastal's offense, each averaging more than 15 points per game and ranking among the Sun Belt's top 15 scorers — making the Chanticleers the only team with three players in that group. The trio combines for 46.4 points per game, most in the league, and has totaled 60 or more points together five times this season, including 73 in the UMass win.
Coastal has made at least 10 3-pointers in five straight games and is 12-4 when scoring 70 or more points. Twelve of its last 14 games have been decided by six points or fewer.
Louisiana ranks third in the Sun Belt in scoring defense (69.0 points per game allowed). Dorian Finister leads the Cajuns at 14.1 points per game, while Jaxon Olvera averages 11.3 and leads the team with 43 3-pointers.
Louisiana has won three straight in the series and holds a 9-2 all-time advantage. Coastal is seeking its first win at the Cajundome (0-4).
A victory would give the Chanticleers eight Sun Belt wins — their most since 2021-22 — and set a program record with five conference road victories.
Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
