CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team fell to the College of Charleston Cougars, 9-6, on Tuesday evening in Charleston, S.C.
The Chants took the lead in the top of the second inning when Kaelin Cash scored on a bases-loaded walk to make the score 1-0.
Coastal built on that momentum in the top of the third inning when McKennah Metzger launched a three-run home run over the left-field wall to push the Chants ahead 4-0.
Metzger continued her strong performance in the top of the fifth inning, driving in another run with an RBI single to give Coastal a 5-0 advantage.
The Cougars cut the deficit to 5-2 in the bottom of the fifth, scoring on an RBI single and a triple by Leela Langston and Austy Miller, respectively.
CofC came out strong in the bottom of the sixth inning, putting up a seven-run frame courtesy of a single, a fielder's choice, and two doubles to take a 9-5 lead.
Georgia Hood recorded her 19th home run of the season in the top of the seventh to narrow the gap to 9-6, but it was not enough to complete the comeback.
Kate Ryan fell to 5-2 in the circle, allowing four runs on four hits over 0.2 innings of work.
