LAFAYETTE, La. – The Coastal Carolina softball team suffered a five-inning, run-rule loss to the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Friday evening in Lafayette, La.
Georgia Hood came out swinging a hot bat, recording her third straight game with a home run when she blasted a two-run shot over the left-center field wall to give Coastal a 2-0 lead.
Louisiana answered immediately in the bottom of the first inning, as Brooke Otto and Emily Smith each hit two-run home runs to give the Ragin' Cajuns a 4-2 advantage.
In the bottom of the second inning, Louisiana piled on four more runs, scoring on a single by Kennedy Marceaux and Otto's second home run of the night to extend the lead to 8-2.
Two more runs came across for the Ragin' Cajuns in the bottom of the third, scoring on a Marceaux RBI double and a Lillian Soto single to push the lead to 10-2.
The Chants continued to fight in the top of the fourth when Hood dropped a two-run single into left field to narrow the gap to 10-4.
Louisiana added one run in both the fourth and fifth innings to secure the 12-4 run-rule victory.
McKennah Metzger fell to 4-3 in the circle, allowing five runs on four hits across 1.0 inning of work.
