CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina head baseball coach Chris Lemonis has announced the hiring of Matt Reida as the program's assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
Reida arrives in Conway after spending the previous three seasons at Houston, where he served as associate head coach. He brings extensive recruiting and player development experience to Coastal Carolina and has served as a recruiting coordinator at multiple stops throughout his collegiate coaching career.
"Matt has built a tremendous reputation as a recruiter and developer of talent throughout college baseball," Lemonis said. "He has a great ability to connect with student-athletes and their families, and his experience identifying, recruiting and developing players will be invaluable as we continue building our program. Matt is a relentless worker who understands what it takes to compete at a championship level, and we're excited to welcome him to Coastal Carolina."
During his time at Houston, Reida played a key role in player development, recruiting and offensive strategy. In 2024, he helped coach an offense that produced the second-most home runs in program history and the program's highest slugging percentage since 1984.
Prior to his time at Houston, Reida spent two seasons at Alabama, where he helped the Crimson Tide post 74 wins and advance to the 2023 NCAA Super Regional round.
I'm incredibly grateful to Coach Lemonis for the opportunity to join Coastal Carolina Baseball," Reida said. "This is a program with a championship tradition and a culture that is respected across college baseball. I'm excited to build meaningful relationships with our players and recruits and help continue the success that Coastal Carolina Baseball is known for."
Before arriving at Alabama, Reida served as an assistant coach at Pittsburgh in 2021, helping the Panthers post a .979 fielding percentage that ranked fourth in the ACC and 22nd nationally. He also spent the 2020 season at Xavier as the program's recruiting coordinator, where the Musketeers set a school record with 68 home runs to lead the Big East Conference.
Prior to his stops at Xavier and Pittsburgh, Reida spent two seasons at Indiana, working with the Hoosiers' hitters, infielders and baserunners. During his first season with the program, Indiana posted a school-record .975 fielding percentage.
A former standout infielder at Kentucky, Reida started 199 career games at shortstop and appeared in 214 games for the Wildcats from 2011-14. Following his collegiate career, he signed a professional contract with the Tampa Bay Rays organization in 2014.
