Volleyball Falls To No. 21 Indiana In Four Sets

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina responded to a two-set deficit by taking the third set from No. 21 Indiana before falling 3-1 Friday night in the Chanticleer Classic at the HTC Center.
The Hoosiers (6-2) won the opening two sets 25-14 and 25-18 before the Chanticleers (4-4) answered with a 25-21 victory in the third. Indiana closed out the match with a 25-15 win in the fourth set.
Coastal broke a 2-2 tie in the third set with four consecutive points behind the serving of Isabella Loeswick. The run included Loeswick's first ace of the match and a block by Anna Rita and Anzley Rinard that gave the Chants a 6-2 advantage.
The Chanticleers never trailed again in the set. Isabele Filardo's third kill of the frame extended the lead to 21-17 before Hatteras Welker capped a 3-0 run that put CCU ahead 23-17. Indiana fought off three set points, but a service error gave Coastal the 25-21 victory.
CCU held the nationally ranked Hoosiers to a .091 hitting percentage in the third set and forced nine attack errors. Coastal hit .222 in the set with nine kills and three attack errors.
Rita and Welker led the Chanticleers with seven kills apiece. Welker hit .600, while Rita finished with a .429 hitting percentage and three blocks. Natalie Hughes added six kills and hit .357.
Jonna Spohn collected a match-high-tying 17 digs. Loeswick handed out 16 assists and served both of Coastal's aces, while Kaylee Musick added 15 assists.
Indiana hit .336 for the match and finished with 59 kills. Jaidyn Jager led the Hoosiers with 17 kills, while Keondreya Granberry added 13.
Coastal will close out the Chanticleer Classic against NC State on Sunday at the HTC Center. The match will serve as the Chanticleers' White Out.
