Johnson Leads Volleyball Past Florida A&M

The Chanticleers improved to 3-2 and finished the tournament with a 2-1 record.
Johnson committed just four errors on 34 attempts for a .382 hitting percentage. Natalie Hughes added 13 kills and four blocks while hitting .414.
Kaylee Musick posted her second double-double of the season with 43 assists and 11 digs. Jonna Spohn collected a match-high 23 digs and added three service aces, while Amarah Johnson finished with a match-high seven blocks.
Coastal hit .243 and held Florida A&M (2-3) to a .093 hitting percentage. The Chants finished with advantages in kills (57-37), digs (72-55), blocks (8-5) and service aces (9-6).
The Chants scored the first seven points of the match and led by as many as 11 in the opening set. The Rattlers pulled within three at 24-21 before Amarah Johnson ended the set with a block.
Florida A&M led 24-22 in the second set before Coastal scored three straight points to move in front. The teams traded points until the Rattlers broke a 28-28 tie with a kill and a service ace to even the match.
Coastal responded by scoring six of the first seven points in the third set. The Chants used another six-point run to extend their lead to 16-7 and closed the frame with five straight points for a 25-11 win.
The Rattlers held a 10-8 advantage in the fourth set before Coastal scored 11 of the next 14 points to take a 19-13 lead. The Chants closed the match with five consecutive points, including two kills from Hughes.
Coastal Carolina returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 10, at Wofford.
