MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Coastal Carolina posted the lowest score of the day to move into first place following Monday's second round of the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate sponsored by Carolina Wealth Advisors at The Grande Dunes Resort Club.
The Chanticleers shot an 11-under-par 277 despite steady gusts that made scoring more difficult throughout the round. Coastal sits at 19-under 557, one stroke ahead of Elon and two in front of Lipscomb entering Tuesday's final round.
Jack Lee carded a 4-under 68 to take over the individual lead at 10-under 134. Lee, who opened with a 66, recorded five birdies Monday and holds a one-stroke advantage over UTSA's David Martinez.
Drew Sykes turned in Coastal's best round of the day with a 5-under 67. He made six birdies, including four over his final eight holes, to move into a tie for seventh at 6-under 138.
Waymon Thomas and Harrison James each shot a 1-under 71 to complete the Chants' four counting scores. Thomas is tied for 20th at 2-under 142, while James and Lucas Arntsen are tied for 38th at 2-over 146.
Among Coastal's individual competitors, Coleman Ferguson and Payton Schmitt each recorded an even-par 72. Santiago Schele finished with a 3-over 75.
Coastal will tee off in Tuesday's final round beginning at 9:30 a.m.
