MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Coastal Carolina captured the team championship, while Jack Lee and Drew Sykes earned co-medalist honors Tuesday at the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate sponsored by Carolina Wealth Advisors at The Grande Dunes Resort Club.
The Chanticleers carded a 10-under-par 278 in the final round to finish at 29-under 835, nine strokes ahead of runner-up Elon. Coastal's 29-under total was the second-lowest in program history.
Lee, Sykes and UTSA's David Martinez finished in a three-way tie for first at 12-under 204. It marked the second consecutive year Lee earned medalist honors at the event, claiming victory by himself last season.
Lee entered the final round with a one-stroke lead and shot a 2-under 70. He recorded four birdies Tuesday and finished the tournament with rounds of 66, 68 and 70.
Sykes matched the lowest round of the tournament with a 6-under 66. He recorded five birdies, including two on the final two holes, and an eagle to erase a four-stroke deficit entering the day. Sykes posted rounds of 71, 67 and 66.
Waymon Thomas carded his third consecutive 1-under 71 to finish tied for 17th at 3-under 213. Lucas Arntsen also closed with a 71 and tied for 35th at 1-over 217, while Harrison James shot an even-par 72 to finish tied for 38th at 2-over 218.
Among the Chanticleers competing as individuals, Santiago Schele finished 44th at 3-over 219. Coleman Ferguson tied for 53rd at 5-over 221, while Payton Schmitt tied for 75th at 10-over 226.
Elon finished second at 20-under 844, followed by Lipscomb at 18-under 846. UTSA placed fourth, and Campbell rounded out the top five.
Coastal Carolina returns to the links Sept. 21-22 at the Highlands Invitational in suburban Chicago.
