MaryKate Avant returns to Coastal Carolina University as the Head Cheerleading Coach, bringing a combination of collegiate cheerleading experience, coaching expertise, and leadership to the Chanticleer program.
A Coastal Carolina alumna, Avant cheered for the Chanticleers for four years. Following her competitive career, she remained involved with the program as a volunteer assistant coach from 2021 to 2023, assisting with practices, game-day preparation, and student-athlete development.
Before returning to Coastal, Avant served as the All-Star Director and Head Coach at Carolina Coast Athletics, where she oversaw program operations, athlete development, staff leadership, and team training. Throughout her coaching career, she has worked with athletes of all ages and skill levels, emphasizing technical excellence, teamwork, accountability, and a positive team culture.
Avant earned her bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, with a minor in Sociology, from Coastal Carolina University.
As Head Cheerleading Coach, Avant is committed to developing well-rounded student-athletes who represent Coastal Carolina University with excellence in competition, on the sidelines, in the classroom, and throughout the community.
