Box Score Women's Soccer Falls to USCS, 3-1 CONWAY, S.C. — Coastal Carolina's women's soccer team dropped its final home game of the season, 3-1 to USC Spartanburg Sunday afternoon at the CCU Soccer Stadium, ending CCU's three game winning streak. Leah Barrett got the Lady Chants (4-9-2) on the board quickly, scoring just 12:30 into the game, but the lead was short lived, as the Peach Belt Champion Lady Rifles (14-2-1) answered back with three straight goals.
Barrett notched her team leading fifth goal of the season as USCS goalkeeper Lindsay Allen, sent a poor clearance through the middle of the field. Barrett stepped in front of the pass, and blasted it off the post, and into the net from 20 yards out. That lead, however, lasted less then two minutes, as the Lady Rifles were awarded a penalty kick, which Dawn Soule converted, skimming her shot in off the post as well.
Spartanburg netted the game-winner in the 58th minute, on a brilliant counterattack that covered about 80 yards. Jennifer Walsh carried the ball toward midfield, sending a pass into space behind the defense, which was collected by Lina Edner, who tapped it past a charging goalkeeper, Candice Doten, to a wide open Thea Moen, who finished it off from three yards out. Moen picked up an assist as the Lady Rifles sealed the game in the 66th minute, as Horace headed home her high cross.
The Lady Chants return to action Wednesday, October 31, when they travel to Campbell.
