Freshman earns weekly honor after opening 3-0 at UNC Wilmington Tourney
WILMINGTON, N.C. - Coastal Carolina softball pitcher Christine Doyle (Teaneck, N.J.-Immaculate Heart Academy) was named Big South softball Pitcher of the Week, Feb. 26. This is the first week this season that the honor has been given.
In her first collegiate experience, the freshman righthander was the rock of the Coastal pitching staff, going 3-0 for the tournament, including three complete games and a shutout, posting a 1.06 ERA and earning the tournament’s Most Valuable Player honor. She got her first collegiate win in the opener over Gardner-Webb, but was solid when it counted, pitching 14 straight innings on Sunday in the semifinal win over Gardner-Webb (4-0 shutout) and then defeating UNCW, 3-2, in the title game. She struck out 13 for the weekend and only walked six in 26 1/3 innings, while giving up just a .160 batting average to CCU opponents.
Coastal Carolina, off to its best start (6-1) since the 1996 season hosts Charlotte in a doubleheader, Sat., Mar. 1 at noon at Coastal Carolina Softball Field.
