Box Score Women's Basketball Falls to Campbell 61-53 More Information:
The Coastal Carolina University women’s basketball team (3-6) fell to Campbell University (3-5) 61-53 in the consolation game of the University of South Carolina Tournament Dec. 30 in Columbia, S.C.
Coastal controlled the early action, as a jumper from junior Kim Turner (West Memphis, Ark./Hiwassee C.C.) gave the Lady Chanticleers a 7-4 lead at the 17:27 mark, but that would be Coastal’s largest margin of the game. Campbell went on a 7-0 run capped by a three-pointer from Amber Graham to grab a 10-7 lead. Campbell extended its lead to eight at 10:48 on a three from Letitia Dickson and had the advantage to 10 on two occasions in the first half. A three-pointer from senior Courtney Brown (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) cut the lead to 26-21 with 6:17 left, but Campbell took a seven-point lead, 33-26, into the break.
Turner had 10 first-half points for the Lady Chants. Rose added six for Coastal, and junior Jasmine Tyler (Jacksonvile, Fla./Okaloosa C.C.) led the team with four rebounds. Kristin Vuckovich went 7-of-8 at the line in the first half and led the Camels with 14 points. Coastal shot 33.3 percent in the first half, but only 2-of-11 from three-point range.
Coastal cut the Camel lead to 36-32 at the 17:49 mark of the second half on a Tyler jumper, but the lead was back to double digits at 13:37 on a Vuckovich layup. A three-pointer by junior Demaria Young (Memphis, Tenn./Walters State C.C.) made it 45-38, but Campbell had a 51-38 lead at 10:32 on two free throws from Graham. Campbell led by as many as 14 points in the second half as Coastal lost its third straight game.
Junior Amber Rose (Bloomington Springs, Tenn./Upperman) led Coastal with 13 points and added three assists. Turner had 12 points and six rebounds and Tyler had 11 points and five assists.
Campbell was led by Vuckovich, who went 10-of-12 from the free-throw line and had 21 points. Graham had 11 rebounds as the Camels were 22-of-28 from the free-throw line in the win.
