Box Score Volleyball Swept by Liberty in Home Finale More Information:
CONWAY, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina volleyball (12-13, 4-4 Big South) lost its home finale on Saturday, Oct. 20 as Liberty (17-7, 7-1 Big South) swept the Lady Chants 3-0 at Kimbel Arena. Game scores were 29-31, 24-30, 23-30.
Coastal watched games one and two slip away as the Lady Chants were unable to withstand late runs by Liberty in each game. After Coastal erased a two-point deficit to even game one at 29-all off a kill by freshman Megan Bickford (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South), the Lady Flames got the final two of the game.
Meanwhile, with the match tied at 23-23 in game two, Alysson Sanders served five straight points to give Liberty at 28-23 lead. Coastal pulled to within four off a kill by freshman Chelsy Kimes (Munster, Ind./Munster), but Liberty pulled away with its last two points to win the game and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Liberty used a pair of seven-point runs to take game three. Liberty's first run came as Bickford had a kill to make it a 16-14 game in favor of the Lady Flames. The second run broke a 22-22 tie.
Bickford totaled a match-high 14 kills, while Kimes hit a team-best .393. Sophomore Meagan Tracey (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon) tallied 39 assists. Junior Brett Starbuck (Glen Allen, Va./J.R. Tucker) added a match-high 20 digs.
Chelanie McCarty led Liberty with 12 kills and a match-best .423 hitting percentage. Nicki Scripko had a 10-kill, 12-dig double-double, while Kallie Corbin added an assist-dig double-double with 37 assists and team-best 15 digs.
Coastal returns to action on Friday, Oct. 26, when it travels to Clinton, S.C., to face Presbyterian. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
