Cantrell then doubled to right center, scoring Gerdts and giving Cantrell her third RBI of the season. With Cantrell at second, Sheppard then smacked the ball over the left field fence for her second homer of the day. Senior

Brittany Birnbaum (Chino Hills, Calif./Ayala) reached first with a shot down the right line. Hood then scored Tolleson and Birnbaum with her first home run of the season over the centerfield fence. In the circle for Coastal was freshman
Ashley Frederick (Lusby, Md./Patuxent). Frederick threw all five innings, allowing only two hits and struck out three batters in picking up her second win of the season and first shutout of her collegiate career. In game two, the Lady Chants fell 5-2 to the Lady Braves from Alcorn State. Alcorn took the lead in the first inning when Tonya Nelms homered over the left center fence, scoring two runs. Sheppard then brought the score to 2-1 with her second double of the day and 13
th RBI of the season with a shot down the left line. In the fourth, Sheppard hit her third home run of the day. She finished the day going 5-for-6 at the plate with two doubles and three homeruns. Cantrell went 2-for-5 with one RBI and Gerdts was 3-for-7. Coastal returns to action in the Red and Blue Classic on Saturday, Mar. 3 taking on Ole Miss at 6 p.m. and Southern Mississippi at 8 p.m.
