Erika Trujillo (Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge (Northern Colorado)) scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded in the third inning.
Allison Cantrell (McDonough, Ga./Eagle’s Landing) put CCU on top 2-0 with an RBI single to center field.
Kristina Sheppard (Galveston, Texas/Ball) then singled to right field to score one and end the third inning with a 3-0 lead. Junior
Ashley Gerdts (Colorado Spring, Colo./Air Acacdemy) increased the CCU lead to 4-0 with her first homerun of the season over the left field fence. Charleston Southern put a run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth off an RBI double from Jennifer Brooks which brought the score to 4-1. CCU rounded out the scoring in the fifth inning when Sheppard singled to the left side and scored
Danyelle Gerdts (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) giving Coastal a 5-1 lead that held for the remainder of the game. Sheppard finished the contest going 2-for-2 at the plate and brought her season RBI total to 22. Throwing in all seven innings for CCU was

Alyssa Tornatore (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora). Tolleson had a big day going 3-for-4 at the plate and recorded three putouts. Coastal sealed the win in the seventh when
Danyelle Gerdts led off with a triple to left field.
Ashley Gerdts then sent her sister Danyelle across home plate with a single up the middle that brought the score to 3-0 which was made final after the Chants held on in the bottom of the inning.
Danyelle Gerdts improved her record in the circle to 2-8. Gerdts struck out five batters and allowed only two hits in seven innings. The Lady Chants improved their overall record to 10-22 and opened up conference play at 2-0. CSU fell to 11-28 on the season and 0-2 in the Big South.
