Box Score 2 Softball Drops Two Games to #23 North Carolina More Information:
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University softball team dropped two games to the No. 23 North Carolina Tarheels on Thursday, Apr. 12. Coastal fell in the first 4-2 in eight innings and lost 8-0 in five innings in the second game. In game one, North Carolina took 1-0 lead in the third inning with a double to right field from Casey Testa. They added another run in the sixth with a double from Stephanie Murad to take the 2-0 lead into the seventh inning. Kimberly Cillis (Magnolia, Texas/Magnolia) and an RBI single from
Carla Hood (Marion, S.C./Marion) that sent the contest into an eighth inning tied at 2-2. UNC added two in the eighth with an RBI double from Jennifer Jacobs and an RBI single from Emily Troup for the 4-2 victory. In game two the Tarheels, took an early 4-0 lead after two innings. In the second, Danielle Spaulding led off with a double down the left line and was brought around with a double from Breanna Brown that scored two. Spaulding finished the game 3-for-3 with one double, two singles and one RBI. North Carolina added four more in the fourth inning off three hits to take the 8-0 lead that held through the fifth for the win. CCU recorded four hits in the contest from

Brittany Birnbaum (Chino Hills, Calif./Ayala) and
Laicole Walker (Wichita, Kan./Wichita Collegiate School). After the two losses, Coastal falls to 15-26 on the season while UNC improves to 40-10 overall. Coastal continues their home stand this weekend hosting Winthrop on Saturday, Apr. 14 and Sunday, Apr. 15. The doubleheader will start at 2 p.m. on Saturday with a single game on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
