Box Score 2 Softball Falls to Winthrop in Both Games More Information:
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University softball team dropped a pair of conference game to Winthrop on Saturday, Apr. 14. Coastal fell in the first game with a score of 5-0 and also in the second 10-0. In game one, Winthrop took an early 2-0 lead. Tessa Thomas singled and was plated with a Stephanie Reid triple down the right line. The Eagles then added the final three runs in the fourth off three hits from Reid, Hilary Peacock, and Mallory Hogan to make it 5-0. Reid finished the game 2-for-4 with one double and one triple. CCU posted two hits in the game.
Kristina Sheppard (Galveston, Texas/Ball) hit double to center in the sixth inning and
Ashley Gerdts (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) singled through the right side. In game two, Sheppard singled through the left side in the first inning recording her second hit of the day, but was left stranded. Eagle shortstop, Reid, put the Lady Eagles up 3-0 in the third inning with her fifth home run of the season. Winthrop got the offense going again in the fourth inning as Sarah Magee doubled to left. After Lauren Blaser reached on a fielder’s choice, Lisa Kingsmore doubled down the right field line to make it 5-0. Reid finished the day Reid finished 3-for-7 with a double, triple and a home run. WU’s Jenny Scrymgeour led off the fifth with a double to left that was followed by a Peacock single that advanced Scrymgeour to third. Lauren Blaser singled up the middle with the bases loaded, scoring Scrymgeour and Peacock to make it 7-0. Thomas then scored three with her fifth homer of the season that increased the lead to 10-0. Coastal finished game two with three hits.
Danyelle Gerdts (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) singled in the third and finished the game 1-for-3. Sheppard went 2-for-2 in the second game and finished the day 3-for-5. Winthrop improves to 37-14 overall and 5-3 in the Big South. CCU falls to 15-28 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
