Matthews-Buning Promoted to Associate Head Softball Coach

CONWAY, S.C.-The first pitch of the season might still be six months away, but the Coastal Carolina University softball team is already preparing for the 2009 season, as Head Coach Jess Dannelly has announced the promotion of Megan Matthews-Buning to associate head softball coach, effective immediately.

Matthews-Buning, a former All-American pitcher during her days at South Carolina, joined Dannelly’s staff last season after a three-year stint as an assistant at Florida State.

In her first season as an assistant with the Chanticleers, Matthews-Buning worked primarily with the pitchers, inheriting a young pitching staff with only one experienced returnee. Matthews-Buning will continue to work as pitching and outfield coach for the Chants, and assume a more significant role in game preparation, in-game management, and recruiting.

“Megan is more than deserving of this promotion,” Dannelly said of his newly promoted pitching coach.

Matthews-Buning says of her promotion, "I am truly grateful for this promotion, and I am excited for the future of Coastal Carolina softball.  I look forward to working in this position with Coach Dannelly and for the university."
