CONWAY, S.C.-- Coastal Carolina University has hired Allanna (Ali) Ferrari as assistant softball coach, Head Coach Kelley Green announced today. Ferrari's appointment is effective immediately.
"I'm thrilled to have Ali on board here in our Coastal Carolina Softball program," Green said. "She will assist and contribute in all aspects of the program. She has a tremendous passion for the game, and she will be a great mentor to our student-athletes on and off the field."
"I couldn't be more excited to be part of Coastal Carolina softball," Ferrari said. "It is an honor to join Kelley's staff and be part of such an outstanding athletic department. I am really looking forward to this opportunity."
Ferrari comes to Conway from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she had served as the head coach for the past two seasons and assistant coach from 2004-2007. While at IUP, she was responsible for all aspects of the Division II program, including recruiting, budgeting and coaching of the program. During her time as head coach, her squad posted a 36-45 record, improving to a 19-19 mark last season, and had the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Rookie of the Year each season. She also led the squad to a berth in the PSAC Tournament her first year at the helm and had three NFCA All-Region and eight All-PSAC players over the two seasons. The Crimson Hawks were also recognized for their academic success, ranking in the top 10 in the nation with a 3.43 grade-point average and had players earn 16 NFCA Scholar-Athlete awards.
Overall in her time at IUP in both roles, the team posted .500 or better records in three of the five seasons. In her first season on the staff in 2005, IUP earned berths in both the PSAC and NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional tournaments and won three games at the region tournament to qualify for the championship round.
Prior to her time at IUP, Ferrari was on the coaching staff for one season at Saint Francis (Pa.). She has been active in softball camps, including serving on the staff at the UCLA Bruin Softball Camp in Los Angeles where she works with many of the top players and coaches in the country.
Ferrari was a standout player for two seasons at California (Pa.), earning several accolades during the 1999 and 2000 campaigns. She was twice selected First Team All-PSAC West and All-Mid-Atlantic Region and played on two conference championship squads. In 1999, Ferrari played a key role on a Vulcan team that won the Mid-Atlantic Region championship, and she was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Ferrari earned her bachelor's degree in business administration and management from California in 2001 and is currently pursuing a master's degree in sport science and sport management at IUP.
