Conway, S.C. - Head coach Kelley Green named Kate Refsnyder to the Coastal Carolina University softball staff today as pitching coach. Her appointment will be effective immediately.
"I am excited to have Kate join our staff," Green said. "Her knowledge about pitching will help elevate the level of our pitching staff and I am eager to have her bring fresh, new ideas to the team."
Refsnyder comes to Coastal Carolina from Albright College in Reading, Pa., where she served as the head coach for one season, as well as working as an admissions counselor. While at Albright, she was responsible for all aspects of the Division III program, including recruiting, budgeting, and player development. Under her direction, the Lady Lions increased their team GPA from 3.0 to 3.2 and had four players selected to Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Academic Honor Roll.
Prior to Albright, Refsnyder served as the assistant coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania for one season under new Coastal Carolina assistant Ali Ferarri. At IUP, she was responsible for the development of outfielders and created and monitored the pitching workouts, and had the 2008 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Rookie of the Year.
Before working at IUP, Refsnyder was the head coach at Archbishop John Carroll High School in Radnor, Pa., for one season. Under her direction, the team improved to a 20-5 record from a 13-9 record the year before and finished the season ranked fourth in Delaware County.
She was a graduate assistant at East Stroudsburg University in 2005-2006, where she assisted with recruiting, camps, and the development of pitchers and middle infielders. In her season with ESU, the Warriors earned an NCAA Regional berth for the first time since 1982 and its first Regional playoff win in school history.
Refsnyder played Division I softball for four seasons at Wagner College, where she pitched and played second and third base for the Seahawks. She was selected Second Team All-Northeast Conference Utility Player in 2005.
Refsnyder earned her bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing from Wagner College in 2005. She completed her master's from East Stroudsburg in 2006 in sports management.
