Softball Announces 2011 Schedule

CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina University softball team, led by second-year Head Coach Kelley Green, announced its 2011 schedule on Friday, Dec. 10. The schedule consists of six tournaments, including four home tournaments and a trip to California.
"We had a goal to increase our strength of schedule this year and in turn, we have some great opponents coming to Conway," Green said. "We will also head out west to Stanford and play some tough competition at their tournament. We have a challenging schedule, but this is important in order to continue raising the bar in our program."
The Chanticleers open the 2011 season on the road for the second year in a row on Feb. 11-13 at the Palmetto State Showdown. Coastal will take on Furman, USC Upstate, South Carolina and Big South Conference foe Winthrop.
Coastal returns to Conway for a 23-game homestand and opens its season at home on Feb. 18-20 with the Kickin' Chicken Classic, where the Chants will face Saint Joseph's, Bucknell and James Madison.
The following weekend, the Chanticleers host the Coastal Carolina Invitational Feb. 25-27, as Boston College, Virginia Tech and Rhode Island come to town.
The Chants continue their homestand with the Coastal Softball Tournament March 4-6, hosting Towson, Delaware and Western Carolina. On March 9, Coastal steps out of tournament play for a mid-week doubleheader against Georgetown.
Coastal closes out its home tournament schedule with the Chanticleer Challenge March 18-20. Providence College, Georgia Tech, Kansas and Lipscomb will all be participating in the event.
The Chanticleers finish its 23-game homestand against South Carolina in a mid-week match up on March 22, before heading out to the West Coast for the Stanford Invitational. While in California, Coastal will take on Stanford, Pacific, UC Riverside and Sacramento State.
Big South play begins on the road for the Chants with a doubleheader against Charleston Southern on March 30. Coastal will step out of conference play on April 5, to play College of Charleston in a doubleheader at home before hosting Winthrop for a three-game league series starting April 9.
On April 11, Coastal travels to South Carolina and returns home for the final game of the three-game series with Charleston Southern on April 13. The Chants are back on the road, traveling to Radford for a three-game series April 16-17 and come home to face UNC Wilmington in a doubleheader April 19.
Coastal is back on the road, facing Presbyterian April 22-23 before returning home to close out the 18-game Big South regular season with Gardner-Webb April 30-May 1, and Liberty May 6-7.
The Chanticleers will travel to Winthrop for the Big South Tournament this year, being played May 12-14.
