BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina University softball team was shutout 6-0 in the final game of the three-game series at Gardner-Webb Sunday, April 11. The Chanticleers fall to 19-21 overall and 1-4 in the Big South Conference while the Runnin' Bulldogs improve to 15-23 and 5-4 in the league.
The game started as a pitching duel with both pitchers allowing just one hit each in the first two innings. Ashley Pisone tallied the first hit for the Chants with a single through the right side, but was left stranded.
In the third inning, Gardner-Webb found their bats recording five runs on six hits. Christa Fullwood posted her second home run of the weekend, bringing home three of the five runs.
The Bulldogs added their final run of the game in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by McKenzie Morenus, giving Gardner-Webb a 6-0 lead.
Coastal got its second hit of the game from Stacy Snellings to lead off the seventh inning, but it would not be enough to get a rally started as she was left stranded on second.
Ashley Frederick took the loss for the Chants, allowing five runs on four hits before Katelin Edwards came it to pitch in relief. Edwards finished the game, allowing two runs on three hits.
Coastal finishes out its three-game series against Charleston Southern on Wednesday, April 14, as it travels to Charleston, S.C. for the final match up. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
