CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina volleyball team won by a score of 3-0 at home for the second-straight match. The Chanticleers defeated Campbell University 25-14, 25-20 and 25-22. Coastal put out a total team effort as none of the Chanticleers reached double-figures in kills or points.
Coastal improves to 11-13 overall and 9-4 in Big South action. The Fighting Camels fall to 7-23 overall and 0-13 in Big South play.
Freshman Monica Hall led the team with eight kills while junior Meghan Laffin chipped in seven. Freshman Gabriella Horvath and junior Kindra Bailey each had six while six others combined for 11 kills. Many of the Chants' points came off Campbell errors as the Fighting Camels had 13 service errors, 16 attack errors, two blocking errors and a ball handling error.
Junior Lauren Alejo led the way with 27 assists while adding five digs and a pair of kills to her total. Sophomore libero Jenna Orner had 12 digs and a pair of kills.
Coastal hit .287 as a team while Bailey led the way with a .600 average. The Fighting Camels hit .194 and both teams had four blocks.
Coastal coasted to wins in the first two sets but found themselves down 7-1 in the opening minutes of the third set. A 12-4 run by Coastal erased the deficit and the Chants never looked back as they went on to win the third set 25-22.
Liberty University clinched the regular season crown with a win Friday evening but the Chants can finish second in the standings with a win tomorrow at home against High Point. The Panthers sit in a tie with the Chants with 9-4 conference records. Coastal will honor its seniors prior to the match and first serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. inside The HTC Center.
