CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina rolled past Old Dominion in straight sets (25-16, 25-16, 25-22) at the HTC Center on Friday in its first home Sun Belt Conference match of the season.
The Chanticleers improved to 10-4 overall and 3-0 in the Sun Belt, while the Monarchs dropped to 3-11 and 0-3 in conference play.
Junior
Jalyn Stout led the Chants with nine kills, while
Ava Wallis had a team-high 15 assists and
Bailee Earnhardt collected a match-high 13 digs.
Emily Fowler and
Anna Rita each had four total blocks.
Coastal led start to finish in each of the first two sets and was only tied twice in the third set, 1-1 and 21-all. The Chants hit .306 (37-7-98) and held ODU to a .132 hitting percentage (32-18-106) with nine total team blocks.
Bryanna Jones recorded a match-high 13 kills for the Monarchs, and Kyra Hampton dished out 16 assists. Jones and Elisa Maggi had 10 digs each.
QUICK SET SYNOPSIS

Set One: Coastal scored seven of the first 10 points, 14 of the first 20, and 20 of the first 30 on its way to its first of back-to-back 25-16 set wins.
Anzley Rinard had two service aces and four kills in the frame, including the set-winner.

Set Two: The second set was nearly an exact duplicate of the first as the Chants jumped out to leads of 7-3 and 14-6 again. Coastal led by 10, 19-9, but the Monarchs trimmed their deficit to six, 22-16. CCU got a kill from Fowler and an ace from Earnhardt following a timeout before a hitting error gave the Chants a 2-0 lead. Stout had five kills and four assists in the frame, while Wallis gave out seven helpers.

Set Three: Coastal led 20-12 in the third set, but ODU battled back to tie the match at 21-all, scoring seven straight points with Maggi serving. The Chants took a timeout after their lead disappeared and immediately reclaimed the lead on a kill by
Kibi Huggins. Rinard put CCU ahead 24-22 with her sixth kill of the match, then Rita and Stout sealed it with a block assist.
NOTES & STATS
• Coastal Carolina moved ahead of ODU in the all-time series, 4-3. The Chants are 3-0 at the HTC Center against the Monarchs since the series began in 2022.
• The Chanticleers are 10-0 in Sun Belt Conference home openers.
• CCU posted its fifth three-set sweep of the season. The Chants have swept the series opener in each of their first two SBC series.
• It was the first time this season that no Chanticleers recorded double-digit kills.
