Clinton, S.C. - Coastal Carolina swept Presbyterian College for the second time this season as the Chanticleers (19-6, 8-3) downed the Blue Hose (10-14, 5-6) 25-23, 25-12, 26-24 on Saturday night inside the Templeton Center.
Coastal has now won 10 straight sets against Presbyterian dating back to last season.
Leah Hardeman's double-double paced the Chants as the freshman notched 11 kills and 11 digs. Eszter Nagy led all hitters with a .500 percentage, putting down nine of 16 attempts with just one error. Sam Skryd provided a match-high 29 assists, just edging out Presbyterian's Ashtin Frank who finished with 28.
Nagy and Lian Bernett tied Hardeman's dig total of 11. Nagy additionally led the Chants at the net with six blocks.
Rachel Hall paced the Blue Hose hitters with nine kills, while Rachel Elshoff finished with seven. Mary Trimpe led all players with 12 digs, and Kelly Berryman tallied a match-high of eight blocks.
PC matched Coastal's hitting percentage in the first set while doubling the Chants' number of blocks, 6-3. The two sides went point-for-point for the majority of the set, resulting in a slim 24-23 Coastal lead late in the game. Nagy then put down her fifth kill of the game to give the Chants a 1-0 match advantage.
Coastal dominated the second set, hitting .350 while keeping PC below .000. Bernett, Hardeman and Nagy all had multiple kills, while PC finished the set with 12 attacking errors.
The deciding set proved to be as tightly-contested as the first, though the Chants did hold a .217-.083 hitting advantage. Hardeman and Nagy led the Chants in the final game, as the former recorded seven kills and the latter provided three blocks. Coastal found itself trailing 23-21 late in the set, but two huge blocks by Annayka Legros and Bernett allowed Coastal back in the game, and Bernett finished off the match with a kill.
With the victory, Coastal matches its overall win total from last season. With three regular-season matches remaining, the 2014 Chanticleers have an opportunity to record over 20 wins for the first time since 2008.
Saturday night's win marks the final regular-season road match for the Chanticleers this season. Coastal will play three more conference games at home, beginning with Charleston Southern on Nov. 7, before hosting the 2014 Big South Championship at The HTC Center.
