CONWAY - Coastal Carolina University junior Bri Chiusano had a strong performance this summer while contributing to a national championship in the Women's Major Softball league.
Chiusano was a member of the Stratford (Conn.) Brakettes, a perennial power in the nation's top summer league for collegiate players. The Chanticleer outfielder played in 28 games for the Brakettes and batted .412, third-best on the squad among those who appeared in at least 10 contests. Chiusano totaled 28 hits, including two home runs, one triple and two doubles. She went a perfect 12 for 12 on stolen-base attempts while scoring 28 runs, producing 13 RBIs and drawing nine walks for a .500 on-base percentage.
The Brakettes posted a 50-4 overall record during the summer (three of the losses came against the Canadian National Team) and won their fifth straight WMS championship.
Chiusano earned All-Big South first team honors last season for Coastal after ranking tied for second in the nation in stolen bases (48) and leading the conference in runs scored. She will head into her junior season with 77 steals, already in a tie for the second-most in Coastal history.
