Final Stats

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's volleyball team extended its win streak to seven matches on Tuesday night as the Chanticleers won a tight 3-1 match against the College of Charleston Cougars inside The HTC Center. Sophomore Annayka Legros had a career night, spurring the Chants to victory with nine kills and seven blocks, including the match-ending kill.

With the win the Chanticleers improve their record to 8-2 and keep their record at home unblemished at 4-0. College of Charleston meanwhile drops to 7-5.

Legros' nine kills were surpassed only by Leah Hardeman and Eszter Nagy, who put down 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Sophomore Miona Milovanovic added eight kills while Lian Bernett tallied six. Sam Skryd provided a match-high 39 assists.

Legros' seven blocks led the Chants at the net. Her final two blocks of the match helped Coastal to close out the final set. Nagy followed with four blocks, while Bernett provided three. Jenna Orner's 19 digs led all players, followed by 11 from Hardeman.

As a team the Chants outhit the Cougars .277 to .110 while putting down 13 blocks compared toCharleston's six.

The Chants and Cougars were neck-and-neck for the majority of the first set. Midway through the set C of C managed to build a 16-12 lead, but an attack error from the Cougars and three straight kills from the Chants tied the game. The set remained close, eventually leading to a 24-24 tie late, but a kill from Nagy and an ace from Bernett closed out the game.

The second set saw Coastal grab a slim lead early, but after C of C tied the game at 11-11 the Cougars went on a four point streak that provided just enough of a cushion to last the remainder of the set.

The Chants came out of the break between sets with intensity and dominated the third set. Coastal jumped out to a quick 12-3 lead on the serving of Bernett and continued to pressure the Cougars. Coastal was dominant on the attack, outhitting the Cougars .419 to .031 as the Chants closed out the third 25-14.

Coastal's momentum carried into the fourth set as the Chants outhit the Cougars .229 to .050. Legros was again a force for Coastal, putting down four kills and registering four blocks at the net. Nagy also had a big set, registering four kills and two blocks. The Chants used a 12-2 run to win the set 25-17 and close out the match.

The 2014 Chants are now one of only five teams in Coastal history to win seven matches in a row. Coastal will have a chance to extend the streak to eight on Friday when the Chants travel to Raleigh, N.C., to take on North Carolina as part of the NC State Tournament. The Chants' lone game on Friday will be followed by a pair on Saturday against Howard and William & Mary.
