CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina volleyball team extended its winning streak to five matches ââ'¬" including four straight against Big South opponents ââ'¬" with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-23) sweep of Campbell Saturday afternoon at The HTC Center.
The win improves the Chants to 12-4, 4-0, while Campbell falls to 5-10, 0-2.
Coastal hit .286 as a team and was led by the 13 kills of Leah Hardeman, a match high. Eszter Nagy had a season-best .727 hitting percentage, putting down eight kills on 11 attempts with no errors.
Annayka Legros finished with nine kills, and added three blocks to co-lead the match alongside Natasa Savovic and Lian Bernett. Overall, Coastal finished with nine team blocks to Campbell's five.
Coastal trailed in the early portion of the opening set before taking the lead for good after an attack error from Campbell's Rachel Harty put the Chants ahead 10-9. Hardeman paced Coastal with five kills as the Chants hit .262, and Aleksandra Djuric and Carla Cahill combined for nine digs to help limit Campbell to hitting .170.
Coastal's attack improved to a .385 hitting percentage in the second set as Legros put down five kills and Hardeman added four. The set featured just one lead change as Campbell again captured the early advantage, but surrendered it quickly as Coastal jumped ahead 8-7 on a Camel service error. From there, the Chants strung together a 12-7 run to build a comfortable lead that allowed them to close out the set and take a 2-0 match lead.
Campbell played Coastal close in a third set that saw eight ties and five lead changes. However, the Camels could not overcome Coastal's .233 hitting percentage and four blocks and the Chants closed the match with a two-point set win. Hardeman posted four kills in the set while Nagy added three. Nagy also registered two blocks, while Hardeman tallied one on match point.
The Chanticleers remain at home to host Charleston Southern for a 7 p.m. match on Friday at The HTC Center. The match will feature Coastal's annual Dig Pink fundraiser that supports the Side-Out Foundation and raises funds for research and treatment of women's breast cancer.
