CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina Softball team concluded its 2015 fall season last week making strides for improvement from last season's finish.
The Chanticleers return 10 players to the roster while adding eight newcomers. This year's freshman class has made a significant amount of progress throughout this fall according to head coach Kelley Green.
"We've had a lot of unexpected players making improvements," said Coach Green. "Out of any fall I think this is the best fall we've had making progress so far. The freshman are ready to make a big impact with the potential of having a few starters in the spring."
In the circle, the Chants return two senior pitchers Mackenzie Conrad and Kelsey Dominik, who will be joined by two freshman newcomers Taylor Rahach and Ashley Guillette. Dominik, a Big South Honorable mention will look to improve her 2015 campaign recording a Big South-leading six shutout season. While making five starts in the circle, Conrad totaled 26 strikeouts to assist in the team's 33-26 overall season.
This fall the Chants lined up against two in-state foes, College of Charleston and University of South Carolina. Coastal hosted South Carolina as they closed out the fall season earning a 19-18 win in a 10-inning game. After a back and forth match up, Coastal won on a walk off home run.
Key losses include Kiana Quolas, who was a significant presence in the circle earning Big South Pitcher of the Year twice during her career. Kory Hayden who led the team offensively concluding her career as the programs all-time home run leader with 61. Sara Rasley, also adding to the team offensively, leading in doubles while ranking third on the team in RBIs and home runs. The team will also miss Taylor Harris, Kasey Oliver and Maicie Hahn.
The Chants are ready to take on the new season and "lace up," the team's new motto is according to Coach Green.
