CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina softball team dropped a doubleheader to ACC foe N.C. State on Wednesday, as the Wolfpack scored five runs in the seventh inning to win the first game 8-3 before taking the second 7-0.

The Chanticleers (18-17) rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the sixth inning to tie the opener on RBI hits by Kelsey Dominik and Sara Rasley before the N.C. State (21-13) came back in the top of the seventh.

Wolfpack ace Emily Weiman had allowed just two hits through five innings before the Chants came up with three in the bottom of the sixth. Hayden started things with a one-out walk, Amanda Daneker reached on an error and Morgan Noad singled through the right side to load the bases. Dominik followed with a run-scoring single to right to get the Chants on the board before Rasley followed with a two-run double to the gap in right-center to even the score at 3-3.

However, N.C. State took advantage of an error leading off the top of the seventh. Davis got a blooper to drop in between three Coastal players in shallow center and a sacrifice moved the runners up to second and third. Molly Hutchison then hit a two-run single to center to give the Wolfpack a 5-3 lead. A hit batter with the bases loaded plated another run and a two-run double by Hannah Yeager capped the scoring.

N.C. State a took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI double that landed on the right-field line by Meredith Burroughs. The Wolfpack then made it 3-0 in the third as Renada Davis, the program's all-time home run leader, hit a two-run shot to left following a leadoff single.

Hayden and Rasley each had two of the Chants' six hits in the game, with Rasley collecting a pair of doubles. Kiana Quolas allowed four earned runs on 10 hits and struck out two in the loss.

In the second game, N.C. State scored single runs in the second and third innings on a home run by Burroughs and an RBI double by Maggie Hawkins before breaking it open in the fifth with five runs on six hits.

Hayden recorded the lone hit for Coastal, a one-out single in the fourth off of Weiman, who also started the second game and went five innings. Dominik suffered the loss, allowing six runs on 10 hits.

The Chanticleers hit the road and return to conference play for a three-game series against Gardner-Webb on Friday and Saturday. Due to the ongoing construction of Gardner-Webb's new stadium, the games will be played at Crest High School in nearby Shelby, N.C. The teams will play a doubleheader Friday starting at 1 p.m. and then finish the series with a single game Saturday at 1 p.m.
