Eight Chanticleers Claim All-Big South Softball Honors

May 6, 2015

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Eight members of the Coastal Carolina softball team earned All-Big South Conference honors for the 2015 season, as the league announced its annual postseason awards on Wednesday.

Senior Kory Hayden was picked as the All-Big South first team third baseman for the fourth consecutive year, while designated player Morgan Noad and outfielder Bri Chiusano were both named to the first team for a second straight season. Pitcher Kiana Quolas and catcher Amanda Daneker were selected to the second team and pitcher Kelsey Dominik claimed honorable mention honors. Kailey Mellen and Annie Robinson were named to the All-Freshmen Team, while Quolas also collected her third consecutive All-Academic Team accolade.

Hayden is hitting a career-best .384 this season and ranks second in the Big South with a .497 on-base percentage. She has totaled a team-high 58 hits, including 11 home runs and nine doubles, while drawing 32 walks, third-most in the conference. The program's all-time home run leader ranks fifth in the league in batting and slugging and sixth in hits, home runs, RBIs (39) and total bases (100). For her career, Hayden stands second in CCU and fourth in conference history with 182 RBIs.

Noad has set a new Coastal single-season record with 21 home runs, while racking up career-bests and team-highs with 54 RBIs and 47 runs. Her .848 slugging percentage is currently third-best in program history, while her .364 average and .459 on-base percentage are also career-highs. The junior slugger's home run total ranks tied for 11th in the nation and third in the Big South, while she also finished second in the conference in total bases (128), third in RBIs and slugging, and tied for third in runs scored.

Chiusano repeated as the league's stolen base leader and ranked seventh in the country with her total of 38. She upped her career total to 115, second-most in Big South history. The junior also finished the regular season hitting .357 with 55 hits -- including her first two career home runs -- and 41 runs scored. She was also second on the team with a .462 on-base percentage and ranked fourth in the conference with 30 walks.

Quolas earned all-Big South honors for the fourth straight season and was the conference's co-leader with a 2.58 ERA during league play while posting an 8-1 record. Despite missing five potential starts over the final eight games due to injury, she was third in the conference in wins, second in complete games and tied for second in shutouts. She went 16-10 overall with a 3.28 ERA and 26 complete games while making eight starts against teams from the SEC, ACC and Big 12. Quolas, who ranks second at Coastal and third in the Big South with 89 career wins, is set to graduate with a degree in exercise and sport science and currently holds a 3.54 GPA.

Daneker claimed her second straight all-conference honor as the second team catcher after leading the team with a .426 average in Big South games. After missing five starts with an injury in mid-March, she returned to hit .700 during the next six conference games. For the season, the sophomore is fourth on the team with a .353 average and 47 hits, including seven doubles and six home runs. With a team-low six strikeouts, Daneker ranks 42nd in the nation in the toughest to strikeout category.

Dominik collected the honorable mention honor in her first year in the league, taking over as the Chanticleers' No. 2 pitcher after transferring from Temple. The junior recorded a Big South-best six shutouts, while ranking second with a 2.61 ERA and a .238 opponents' batting average. She posted a 14-8 record and 12 complete games, while logging 139.1 innings over 27 appearances. Offensively, she totaled 10 home runs, seven doubles and 28 RBIs.

Mellen and Robinson are the fourth and fifth Chants to earn the All-Freshmen honor since the league starting naming a full team in 2013. Mellen began her career with hits in her first five collegiate at-bats and went on to start 49 of the team's 53 games in the outfield. She ranked fourth on the team with 28 runs scored, while posting a .241 average with seven doubles, four home runs and 23 RBIs. Robinson contributed to the squad's program-record home run total with eight longballs, while playing in 36 games and starting 19 at first base. She hit .242 and added a pair of doubles, with 22 RBIs and nine runs.

Coastal now has 51 All-Big South first-team picks and 36 second-team selections in program history.
