CONWAY - Coastal Carolina softball player Ashley Guillette has been named the Big South Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday.
It is her first career Pitcher of the Week honor for Guillette who made four appearances and notched two starts this past week. Guillette maintained a 1.05 ERA over the last four games for the Chanticleers allowing only 12 hits and three runs with 25 strikeouts.
The freshman pitcher from Oxford, Conn., went 2-0 with a 1.05 ERA in 20.0 innings to help Coastal Carolina attain a 4-1 record last week. In the Chanticleers second contest of its doubleheader against College of Charleston, she surrendered just two earned runs and recorded 11 strikeouts -- the freshman's second time this season accomplishing the feat -- as Coastal defeated College of Charleston, 7-2.
In Friday's series opener versus Winthrop, Guillette closed out the game pitching 2.0 innings in relief recording two strikeouts while not allowing a hit.
Guillette went on to pitch a complete game, 8-1 win in game one of Coastal's doubleheader versus Winthrop Saturday. The Oxford native had seven strikeouts while allowing just one run and pitching six straight scoreless innings. Then, closed out game two pitching 4.0 innings recording five strikeouts while also not allowing a hit.
She is the third Chanticleer to earn conference honors this season and the first to earn Pitcher of the Week.
The Chanticleers return home to host Charleston Southern in a mid-week doubleheader, Wednesday. First pitch set for 3 p.m. with the second game to follow approximately 25 minutes after.
