Chanticleers Sweep Campbell with 15-2 Win Wednesday

BUIES CREEK - Coastal Carolina scored 10 runs in the sixth inning to take an insurmountable 15-2 lead to sweep Campbell thanks to the Chanticleers winning both games of a doubleheader on Tuesday.

Timi Tooley was 2-for-4, hitting a pair of doubles that led to a total of three RBIs, while Mackenzie Conrad also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Ashley Guillette (8-6) got the win in the circle scattering five hits while recording six strikeouts. The 15 runs scored was a season high for the Chanticleers.

In the top of the second, Kelsey Dominik was hit by the pitch then advance to second on a wild pitch. Tooley delivered an RBI double to send Dominik to the plate. After, Tooley advanced to third on a wild pitch. Adriana Toro reached on a fielder's choice as Tooley scored for a 2-0 lead.

Coastal extended its lead to 4-0 in the third. Leadoff hitter Chiusano was walked before Taty Forbes singled. After a ground out moved the runners up, Conrad smacked a single into left field, driving in Chiusano and Forbes.

Campbell added a run in the bottom of the third. Rachel McCollum delivered an RBI double to score Katie Baker to trail CCU 4-1.

In the top of the fifth, Morgan Noad blasted a solo homer over the right field fence ââ'¬" her 20th of the season ââ'¬" to give the Chants a 5-1 advantage.

Campbell responded in the bottom of the fifth with a solo blast from Baker to cut its deficit 5-2.

The Chanticleers took command in the top of the sixth as they scored 10 runs to take an impressive 15-2 lead. Alexis Alvino got things started as she drilled a double to left field. Pinch hitter Annie Robinson walked and Chiusano followed with a single to load the bases for CCU. Forbes then pushed an RBI single up the middle to score Alvino for a 6-2 lead. Then, Noad drew a bases loaded walk to force home Angela Buccilli. Continuing the momentum, Dominik hit a RBI single to send Forbes and Chiusano home for a 9-2 lead. Conrad then hit a single up the middle to load the bases again for CCU. Tooley hit a two-run RBI double to score both pinch runner Cassidy Brzozowski and Noad. Pinch hitter Kailey Mellen delivered an RBI single to plate Tooley and Conrad for a 13-2 cushion. Forbes reached on a Campbell fielding error as Alvino and Mellen scored to make it 15-2.

Campbell was held scoreless in the bottom of the sixth to end the contest.

The Chants return for a seven-game home stand this weekend opening with Gardner-Webb on Saturday. First pitch for the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
