CONWAY - Coastal Carolina softball took a pair of one run games, 4-3 and 3-2, against Troy in Sun Belt action Saturday afternoon.
The Chanticleers improve to 23-8, 3-4 SBC, while Troy dropped to 15-18, 3-4 SBC.
Game 1; CCU 4, Troy 3
Troy got on the board in the first inning thanks to a lead-off double and then scoring on a sacrifice fly.
The Trojans pushed another run across in the second on a Kaylee Hussey home run for a 2-0 lead. The Chants cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning on a Kassidy Smith home run.
Troy regained a two-run advantage in the top of the third on a Becca Hartley homer. The Chants pulled back within one on three singles by Taty Forbes, Amanda Daneker and Timi Tooley.
Adriana Toro homered to center field to tie the game at 3-3 in the fourth inning. The Trojans pulled their starting pitcher after giving up a single to Mackenzie Budinger, who was lifted for pinch runner Michaela McAuley. Angela Buccilli followed with a walk, before both runners were advanced on a Forbes sacrifice bunt. Daneker was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Tooley walked to force home McAuley for the eventual winning run.
Taylor Rahach (10-3) pitched 6.1 innings. She scattered five hits and allowed three runs (two earned) while walking one and striking out two.. Ashley Guillette recorded the final two outs to earn her third save of the season.
Game 2; CCU 3, Troy 2
The second game started with Troy scoring twice in the top of the first on a Chanticleer miscue and two Trojan hits.
Coastal answered back in the home half of the first and tied the game, getting two runs without recording a hit. Forbes led off with a walk and promptly stole second. Daneker followed with a second walk before both were pushed up a base on a sacrifice bunt by Tooley. Kailey Mellen walked to load the bases before Alvino drew a free pass to force in Forbes cutting the lead in half. Coastal Carolina tied the game at 2-2 when Toro was hit by a pitch to advance Daneker home.
Neither team could muster much offense until the bottom of the seventh. Smith (3-5 on the day with two RBI) pushed across the final run of the game on a walk-off single that scored Tooley (3-4 on the day, 1-2 game one and 2-2 game two).
Guillette (7-4) earned a complete-game victory as she allowed four hits, two runs (zero earned) and four walks with seven strikeouts.
The Chanticleers will attempt to pick up the series sweep on Sunday in Conway at noon.
