CONWAY - On Monday, the Coastal Carolina softball team took to the practice again for the first time in three weeks. They are getting back to their daily routines of classwork and on the field following Hurricane Florence as they prepare for the 2018-19 fall schedule. Over the next month, their preparation will be tested in a slate of four games, two of which will be played at the newly named St. John Softball Stadium, formally known as CCU Softball Stadium.
The Chants will open up at home on Sunday, October 14 as they host Colonial Athletic Association's, College of Charleston starting at 2 p.m.
Two weeks later on October 28 at 1 p.m., the third-leading team in the NCAA a year ago regarding homeruns per game (1.39), will travel to Charleston to take on former Big South foe, Charleston Southern, at the CSU Softball Complex.
Coastal Carolina will then take on the Peach Belt's (DII) Francis Marion Patriots on November 2 as they travel to Florence for a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.
On November 4, CCU will wrap-up their 2018 fall schedule with a doubleheader at home as the play host to another Peach Belt team, the UNC Pembroke Braves, starting at 1 p.m.
This season's Chanticleers roster will have a mix of youth and veterans returning from a year ago. Last season the Chanticleers fielded a line-up that consisted of six first year players including; Stavi Augur, Kaitlin Beasley-Polko, Courtney Dean, Samantha Sack, Taylor Sweigart, and Natalie David.
Dean made the biggest impact of all Chant newcomers in 2018 as she hit .345, 15 homers and 38 runs batted in. The 15 homers was second best in the Sun Belt Conference and nine of those 15 came in conference play. The 15 homers also was good for sixth most in Chanticleer single season history. Her 38 RBI was third best in the conference and best among all freshman. Dean led in many of the offensive statistics as she was tops on the squad with 14 multi-hit games, 13 multi-RBI games and the longest hitting streak of the season of eight games.
(All fall softball games will be admission-free)
