Conway, S.C. – Coastal Carolina baseball concluded its fall scrimmage schedule on Sunday afternoon with a pair of nine-inning contests versus the UNC Wilmington Seahawks at Springs Brooks Stadium.
For the doubleheader exhibition, the Chants' offense totaled nine runs on 14 hits, highlighted by a solo home run in game two by freshman Walt Richardson (1-for-3, home run), a pair of base hits by sophomore Parker Chavers (2-for-2, double, single, run) in game one and two base hits off the bat of redshirt senior Turner Buis (2-for-4, double, sac fly, RBI, run).
Infielders Michael Koenig (1-for-1) and Cory Wood (1-for-3) each had a base hit on the day, while fellow infielder Scott McKeon (2-for-5, double, two walks, run) picked up two base hits over the two contests.
CCU's Keaton Weisz and Morgan Hyde (1-for-3, run, RBI) each had RBI sacrifice flies on the day, while catcher Dallas Callahan (1-for-4, walk, 2 RBIs) drove in two runs with a bases loaded single in the second game.
The Chant arms, which comprised up of nine guys over the 18 innings of play, combined to strike out 23 batters compared to just nine base on balls.
Freshman left-handed pitcher Garrett McDaniels struck out two and gave up just one hit over 3.0-scoreless innings, while fellow newcomer Jacob Maton struck out four batters over 3.0 innings of work.
Sophomore hurler Trevor Damron pitched 1.0-scoreless innings, striking out one, while redshirt freshman Kiernan Higgins struck out four UNCW hitters over 2.0-scoreless innings on the day.
Alaska Abney, Dylan Gentry, Rhett Daniel and Nick Parker all registered 2.0 innings on the mound for the Chants.
The Chant World Series has been canceled, as the team has played a total of 34 innings in two exhibition contests versus Clemson (Oct. 27) and UNC Wilmington (Nov. 4). The team will focus on individual skills work and getting healthy over the final week of fall practice this week before heading into the winter break.
The complete 2019 spring baseball schedule will be announced later this month.
